Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Myopia is a condition in which the curvature of the cornea is too steep or curves too much. As a result of the steep curve of the cornea, when light is bent by the myopic cornea it is focused too far in front of the retina. Myopia causes the patient to have a blurred view of the world at far distances. Myopia can cause the eye to grow a little larger than normal as well. Myopia is a very common condition and can be treated with spectacle lenses with a negative power. The negatively powered lens will allow the light to bend further back until it falls perfectly onto the retina. Myopia can be treated with negatively powered contact lenses as well. The patient will experience clearer vision with eyeglasses than contact lenses because the contact moves with each blink and eyeglasses correct the condition completely. Myopia is a condition that can be detected during your yearly routine eye examination and if detected a proper treatment plan will be designed for you.
